About Blue Pillar

Blue Pillar connects Energy Things™ that power our world and makes that information available to people in real time. Their platform connects both legacy and new energy devices across single- and multi-site facilities.

Blue Pillar inventories equipment and connects almost any kind of energy device from almost any manufacturer -including generators, smart meters, PV systems, energy storage, appliances, HVAC control systems – and combines them all into one centralized, easy-to-use energy management system. This connectivity strengthens critical infrastructure against power outages and other disruptions while helping businesses become more operationally productive and energy efficient.

Government organizations, universities, or businesses with multiple campuses can use Blue Pillar to see and manage all of their facilities in one place, instantaneously.

Blue Pillar has raised multiple rounds of institutional capital and has offices in Maryland, Switzerland, and Indiana – where the company was originally founded. In 2016, Blue Pillar won the Grid Edge Award from Platts Global Energy Awards.

Project Description

As a member of Elemental Excelerator’s 2015 Demonstration Track, Blue Pillar is piloting their energy management application with the University of Hawaii, as well as another government facility with multiple distributed energy resources. Blue Pillar is using their system to connect multiple building management systems and smart meters at the University of Hawaii and providing facilities managers real-time visibility into the performance of these buildings – and the ability to proactively manage them – for the first time. Blue Pillar is also deploying its microgrid controller and evaluating sites’ load profiles to determine the economic feasibility of adding energy storage.
