Maurice was a principle architect of Elemental Excelerator and has shaped its mission and evolution over the years. He plays a key role in advising about the growth of the program and in maintaining Elemental Excelerator’s close ties with the Hawaii community.

Heavily involved in shaping today’s energy policy, Maurice served as the Administrator of the State of Hawaii’s energy office from 1988 to 2008. During his time with the State, Maurice helped to conceive and launch the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, a first-of-its-kind policy strategy between the State of Hawaii and the U.S. Department of Energy.

He presently consults on clean energy policies and strategic management direction. In addition to his role as Senior Advisor at Elemental Excelerator, Maurice serves on U.S. DOE’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technical Advisory Committee and was previously Chairman of the State Energy Advisory Board to the Secretary of Energy, U.S. DOE, and on the boards of the National Association of State Energy Officials, the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority, and the High Technology Development Corporation.

When he is not in the office or traveling for business, you can find Maurice and his wife spending time with their grandchildren or traveling to Japan to enjoy the culture, traditions, and food.
