Elemental Excelerator

One of the most exciting parts of the Energy Excelerator is that we provide startups with grant-based funding that doesn’t dilute their share of ownership in the company. We’re able to do this through a strategic investment from the United States Navy’s Office of Naval Research.

Discovering viable new sources of energy and utilizing energy efficiently are both part of the Navy’s goals to decrease reliance on fossil fuels by the Navy and Marine Corps. The department is counting on renewables and efficiency to be the solutions to regional security and rising prices of energy from fossil fuels.

The Energy Excelerator funding comes through the Asia-Pacific Technology and Education Program (APTEP), which supports breakthrough technologies in science and energy, commercialization, and education. Our unique non-profit model of growing energy startups makes this an amazing partnership on both sides.

The Office of Naval Research explained all of this and more in a press release about our work together. You can also learn more about the Navy’s plans for secure energy supply in their Energy Strategic Roadmap.
