Marcel drives the strategy and operations for recruiting and selecting the top climate tech and social equity entrepreneurs globally. In addition to managing the application process for prospective companies, he leads the due diligence process to help Elemental choose the most impactful climate tech companies to fund and bring into its portfolio.
Prior to Elemental Excelerator
Born and raised in Ithaca, NY, Marcel now resides in Seattle, WA, where he completed his MBA at the University of Washington. As a graduate student Marcel worked on a wide variety of climate projects, including evaluating future potential clean energy gaps for Microsoft and helping build new models for the Elemental portfolio company Mast.
Prior to his MBA, Marcel worked at REI where he helped integrate circular commerce systems into the Co-op’s offerings. He brings a breadth of previous startup experience to his work at Elemental, including supporting entrepreneurs as a Venture Fellow at Techstars Seattle and running his own bootstrapped startup. With a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Colorado College, Marcel is captivated by the intricacies of natural systems and the power of the scientific method to tease out their workings. He is passionate about solving the climate crisis and ecosystem degradation through equitable, science-based solutions.
Outside of the office
When he’s not nose-deep in a climate report, you can find Marcel snowboarding, climbing, mountain biking, surfing, playing tennis, or—when he’s out of energy—listening to the latest This American Life.
